Reflections
Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love.
— Reinhold Niebuhr, from
The Irony of American History
- We all want to do good with our lives
- But we always have reason to wait before we can do good
- Fear of failure
- Fear of lack of experience
- Whenever we want to do good, evil is just around the corner
- We don’t understand who we are
- We are God’s creation, His masterpiece
- We have more potential than we realize, but our brokenness can be doing great deal of harm
- We don’t necessarily know what good is
- Don’t be shocked by sin of us or other people
- Don’t be surprised by the difficulties
- We might be able to walk in the way of good works
- God prepare us to do good
- Instead of being good, we try to be busy, or just imagining being good
- If we want to be good, be truly yourself
- Not to worry about end results
